James began his fitness career in the British Army and in 2007 decided to turn his attention to personal training. James has competed in many sports including Rugby, Basketball, Bodybuilding and Strong Athlete however his competitive focus now lies with CrossFit in which he competes regularly around the UK and Europe. He has trained rugby teams, professional athletes and everyone in between. In 2011 James opened Oxford’s first personal training studio in North Oxford, and then went on to found The Athlete Centre in 2013.
Ed PilkingtonHead of Programming
Ed gained coaching experience across a variety of sports before becoming qualified as a Personal Trainer in 2012. Since then he has attained a MSc in Strength and Conditioning and become a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with The National Strength and Conditioning Association. Ed’s experience ranges from professional athletes to first-time-gym-goers and retirees to teenagers. This range of experience and knowledge allows Ed to modify training to suit the client and their needs.
Theo DaltonHead of CrossFit Programming
Theo has been a qualified personal trainer since 2011 undertaking his training through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, having studied sport science for two years previously. He has worked freelance in large commercial gyms as well as smaller personal trainer Studios. Theo found his way onto the strength scene through Powerlifting but has since turned his attention to a more general Strength and Conditioning programme. Theo currently plays semi-professional football and regularly competes in CrossFit events.
Tom BurtonStrength & Conditioning coach
Tom started his sporting career as an elite professional Rugby league player at various clubs. During this time, he was recruited as a personal trainer at a private training studio run by professional Rugby players. From there he has now set up his own personal training business to transfer his knowledge to those who’s health needs improving. His experience in lifting benefits his CrossFit coaching that he began in January 2013. Tom has a straight up approach to training that includes the saying “if you ain’t first your last” and his main aim is to help people get in shape and stay young.
Nick DawesStrength & Conditioning coach
Nick started his career as a Personal Trainer in a large commercial gym before realising his dream of owning his own Personal Training studio in Oxford. Nick joined The Athlete Centre coaching team in January 2014 after being highlighted as one of Oxford’s best Trainers. Nicks knowledge of CrossFit and Gymnastics has made him a hit and he is certainly the guy best placed to get you your first Muscle Up or Handstand Push up. Years of experience helps Nick achieve great results with members and clients of all ages and abilities.

Richard Baggott la VelleOsteopath
Richard holds degrees in both Pharmacology from King’s College and Osteopathy from Oxford Brookes University and is consequently very medically orientated. Richard runs a successful private Osteopathy clinic in Oxfordshire and is particularly interested in musculoskeletal injuries in specialist groups such as sports men and women and Rugby teams. You will regularly see Richard participating in Crossfit classes and also leading the mobility classes to ensure all of our athletes are injury and niggle free.
Kamil WojciechowskiCrossFit/Strength and Conditioning Coach
Kamil moved to the UK from Poland in 2011 to focus on developing his career in Coaching. In 2011 he joined the team here at TAC and his enthusiasm has helped him to establish himself as a very valued member of the team and even more so among our members. Kamil puts a lot of focus on his own training as a competitive CrossFitter and this experience has transferred over well into his support of both the OUWBC and Headington Schools Elite Rowing Team. Kamil loves coaching anyone who is motivated to improve and many of his clients are business professionals looking to improve their fitness/strength levels.

Michael graduated in biological sciences and undertook a career working in both small and big business before earning his fitness qualifications in 2012. Michael’s background in sport is varied, with particular focus on endurance and strength – he is accomplished in both triathlon and Muay Thai. As such, he has worked with a diverse range of clients from athletes to people who want to look and feel better. His continued commitment to learning also led him to undertake further study to qualify as a nutritionist, allowing him to address not just someones fitness program, but their lifestyle as a whole.
